Obituary

Michael J. “Mike” LeBlanc, 57, of Dorchester, formerly of Gardner, died unexpectedly, Saturday, May 9, 2020, at his residence, after a long battle with heart failure.

Born in Athol on January 31, 1963, he was the son of Roger R. and Patricia (Battaini) LeBlanc. He was a graduate of Gardner High School with the Class of 1982, where he excelled in track. During his senior year of high school, Michael won the Class D State title in hurdles. He later attended Fitchburg State College, graduating in 1987, with a Bachelor of Science degree in Human Services , and began a career serving the needs of the disabled. Initially he worked in group homes that provided supervised living quarters to clients with intellectual challenges. For the past 20-years, he worked for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Department of Developmental Services as a Service Coordinator. Trained in sign language, Michael worked with many clients who were hearing impaired.

Michael was an avid fan of the Boston Celtics, and never missed a Three Stooges marathon or a Star Wars movie. One of his greatest joys was spending time with his nephew Christopher vacationing at the beach and attending sporting events. For the past few years, the pair have participated side-by-side in the Spartan Sprint at Fenway Park. Michael also enjoyed owning and renovating his own home in Dorchester. He had a green thumb and maintained a wide variety of house plants and flower gardens in his yard. He was also and animal lover, spending many hours tending to his tropical fish tank and his cat.

Besides his parents Roger and Patricia LeBlanc of Gardner, Mike is survived by two sisters Debbie J. Ferus and her husband Robert of Dracut, and Brenda M. LeBlanc of Gardner; one brother, John M. LeBlanc of Gardner; one nephew, Christopher LeBlanc who is currently in the United States Air Force; several aunts, uncles, cousins and many dear friends.

Funeral Services will be private and held at the convenience of the family.
