Emil A. Tanguay

April 21, 1930 ~ March 3, 2020 (age 89)


Emil A. Tanguay, 89, of Gardner, died peacefully, Tuesday, March 3, 2020, in Wachusett Manor, Gardner, after an illness.

Born in Nashua, New Hampshire, on April 21, 1930, he was the son of the late Arthur and Yvonne (Brunette) Tanguay. Emil was a graduate of Gardner High School with the Class of 1949. Emil was an expert clockmaker and operated his own shop in Gardner for 20- years until his retirement in 1999. He previously employed by L.K. Johnson from 1951 to 1955 and at Newcomb and Walsh from 1955 to 1975 and Bercon Packaging from 1975 to 1979.

He was a parishioner of Annunciation Parish/ Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church of Gardner. He was a member of the National Association of Watch & Clock Collectors of America (NAWCC) and a member of the Silver Sneakers of Gardner. He enjoyed traveling, making puzzles and going to flea markets, and yard sales. Emil was a collector of antique clocks. He was a big fan of the Boston Red Sox. But the time Emil loved and cherished the most time was spent with his family.

Emil is survived by his wife of 66-years, Barbara Rose (Beaton) Tanguay of Gardner; two sons, Brian P. Tanguay and his wife Tina of Templeton, and David A. Tanguay and his wife Nancy of New London, CT; two daughters, Karen L. Olivari and her husband David of Gardner, and Judith A. Rice and her husband John of Westminster; three brothers, George Tanguay Dunwoody, GA, Norbert Tanguay and his wife Sherrie of New Mexico, and Herve Tanguay and his wife Seranne of Rehoboth; one sister, Sr. Cecile Tanguay of Marlborough; six grandchildren, Melanie Quercia, Kurt, Ryan, and Seth Tanguay, Amanda Inman, and Samuel Olivari; six great-grandchildren, Lillian, Evan, Hazel, Paige, Elise, and Otis; several nieces nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by three brothers, Armand Tanguay, Rev. Andre Tanguay, and Leo Tanguay; three sisters, Sr. Gilberte Tanguay, Fernande Goguen and Denise Agnelli and his grandson and godson, Benjamin Olivari.

Funeral Services will be held Saturday, March 7, 2020, from the Boucher Funeral Home, Inc., 110 Nichols Street, Gardner, MA, with a Mass at 10:00 a.m. in Annunciation Parish at Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church, 135 Nichols Street, Gardner, MA. Burial will follow at St. John’s Cemetery, West Street, Gardner.

Calling Hours will be held Friday, March 6, 2020, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in the funeral home.
