CSM William Joseph Constantine, Jr, US Army Retired, born in Cambridge, MA on August 5, 1931, passed away in his home on December 25, 2023 at the age of 92.

William had a distinguished military career of which he and his family were very proud. He started his service in the 182 Regimental Combat Team, Massachusetts National Guard serving from 1946-1949. William then joined the US Army in October of 1949, retiring in June of 1979 with the rank of Command Sargent Major. While on active duty in the US Army, he served in the military intelligence with the US Army Security Agency, the National Security Agency, and the Navy Security group. His duty stations included Alaska, Germany, Korea, England, Vietnam, Fort Gordon in GA, Fort Benjamin Harrison in IN, Arlington Hall Station in VA, Navy Security Group in VA, and Fort Devens in MA. William's last duty station was with Intelligence and Security Command in Berlin, Germany. While on active duty, he was awarded: The Legion of Merit with one Oak Leaf Cluster, the Bronze Star, the Meritorious Service Medal with one Oak Leaf Cluster, the Army Commendation Medal with two Oak Leaf Clusters, the Good Conduct Medal with nine additional awards, the Meritorious Unit Citation, the Army Occupation Medal, the National Defense Service Medal with one Oak Leaf Cluster, the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm, the Vietnam Campaign Medal, and the Expert Rifleman Badge. After his retirement, he worked for a brief time at Honeywell Corporation before moving to Gardner, MA, where he finished his career with Simplex Time Recorder. After the death of his first wife, Julia (or Jay as he often called her) Constantine, who suffered from a prolonged illness, he once again began to enjoy his love of travel. He met his second wife, Alicia Green, while in Sicily. They married in September of 2018 and enjoyed many years traveling the world together before settling in Los Angeles, where he said the weather was "better for his old bones.”

William is survived by his wife, Alicia P. Green; two daughters, Deborah Ann Gendron and Karen S. Konish, along with sons-in-law, James A. Gendron and Paul P. Konish; five grandchildren, Julia Petri, Michelle Gendron, Lisa Gendron, James W. Konish, and Steven P. Konish; three great-grandchildren, Owen Konish, William Konish, and Coen Gendron.

William was predeceased by his wife of 46 years, Julia (Vozella) Constantine; his parents, Mary A. (Conway) Constantine and William J. Constantine; his brothers, Robert Constantine, John Constantine, Richard Constantine; and sisters, Loretta Burns and Mary McVay. He also leaves behind many friends and relatives with whom he remained in close contact over the years. He will be greatly missed by all who had the honor of knowing him.

William was laid to rest on January 12, 2024, at the Massachusetts Veterans' Memorial Cemetery, Winchendon, MA during a private ceremony with immediate family only.
