William Grant"Grant" Asbury

William Grant Asbury, 74, of Ashburnham, died peacefully Wednesday, May 17, 2017 in his residence following a brief illness.
Born in Berwind, West Virginia on July 17, 1942, he was the son of the late William Charles and Kathryn (Rowe) Asbury.
Grant graduated from Big Creek High School in War, West Virginia with the Class of 1960.
Bill was a United States Air Force Vietnam War Veteran and received the National Defense Medal and the Good Conduct Medal.
He was employed in the plumbing department of Home Depot for several years, retiring in 2004. He was previously employed by ChemDesign Corporation of Fitchburg and Borden Chemical of Leominster.
Grant enjoyed gardening, planting and working on cars. He loved spending time with his family, and he also enjoyed birdwatching and hiking. Grant was known as the 'Mayor of Cushing Street', something he will always be remembered for.
He leaves his wife of 52 years, Charlene D. (Bergeron) Asbury of Ashburnham; one son, William G. Asbury II and his significant other, Claudette Borey of Gardner; one daughter, Judith M. Reponen of Gardner; five brothers, Charles Asbury and his wife Betty of Ballard, WV, Dexter Asbury and his wife Kay of Ghent, WV, Jerry Asbury of Ronceverte, WV and Albert Asbury and his wife Carolyn of Mansfield, PA; one sister, Martha Asbury of Louisburg, WV; three grandchildren, Stephanie Williams, Zachary Reponen and Makayla Reponen; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by one brother, Joseph Asbury.
Funeral Services and burial will be held Tuesday, May 30th at 2:00 p.m. in the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 111 Glenallen Street, Winchendon.
There are no calling hours.
Family and friends are asked to report directly to the cemetery the day of the services.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Montachusett Veterans Outreach Center, Inc., 268 Central Street, #A, Gardner, MA 01440.
Boucher Funeral Home, Inc., 110 Nichols Street, Gardner is handling the arrangements.
