Ulysses J. Melanson, 66, of Gardner, died peacefully Monday, November 21, 2022, in his home surrounded by his family after an illness.

Born in Cocagne, New Brunswick, Canada, on January 9, 1956, he was the son of the late Romeo J. and Doris (Richard) Melanson. Ulysses was a United States Navy Veteran. At the time of his death, he was the Owner and Operator of Chair City Blueboard and Plastering for many years.

Ulysses was a parishioner of Annunciation Parish/ Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church of Gardner. He enjoyed playing cards and taking trips to the casino. He loved the water, where he enjoyed fishing and boating, but most of all, the tropical vacations to Aruba. Ulysses’ greatest joy was his family, treasuring their special moments together.

Ulysses is survived by his wife of 9- years, Coleen (Thornton) Melanson of Gardner; four sons, Kevin J. Melanson and his wife Pamela of Whitinsville, Jason J. Melanson and his fiancé Gia of Gardner, Jeff J. Melanson and his fiancé Kristina of Abington, and Nicholas A. Melanson of New Hampshire; three step-daughters, Nicole L. Cafaro and her fiancé Alex of Gardner, Elizabeth A. Cafaro of Watertown and Jill R. Cafaro and her fiancé Nick of Somerville; eleven grandchildren; six brothers, Norman Melanson of Cape Cod, Donald Melanson of Leominster, Maurice Melanson and his wife Sharon of Westminster, Guy Melanson and his wife Edwina of Fitchburg, Michael Melanson and his wife Shannon of Leominster and Bernard Melanson of North Andover; three sisters, Annette Saulnier and her husband Gerry of New Brunswick, Canada, Yolande Johnson, and her husband Delore of New Brunswick, Canada, and Joanne Richard and her husband Roger of Fitchburg; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was predeceased by two brothers, Jean-Paul Melanson and Yvon Melanson.

Calling Hours will be held Monday, December 5, 2022, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. in the Boucher Funeral Home, Inc., 110 Nichols Street, Gardner, MA 01440.
