Tai Summer-McGuinness, 79, of Barre, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 4, 2026, at Heywood Hospital in Gardner.
Born in Oakland, California, on April 9, 1947, she was the daughter of the late Ralph Adams and Millicent Doyle Adams. Raised in San Leandro, California, she graduated from San Leandro High School with the Class of 1965 and continued her education at San Jose State University, where she earned her Bachelor of Arts degree.
Tai dedicated much of her professional life to helping others through advocacy, education, and holistic wellness. She provided services for Domestic Violence Resources in Bedford, Massachusetts, serving as an advocate, instructor, lecturer, and advocacy trainer. A licensed massage therapist, Tai was certified in CranioSacral Therapy and Myofascial Release and was the proud owner and operator of Ahh Relax Wholistic Massage and Ahimsa Healing Path, first in Acton and later in Barre, Massachusetts. She was also a certified Plant-Based Health and Lifestyle Coach, drawing upon decades of experience to help individuals of all ages prevent and manage chronic medical conditions through whole plant-based nutrition and sustainable lifestyle changes. Through her work, Tai touched countless lives, offering compassion, encouragement, and guidance to those seeking healing and a healthier way of life.
Dance was one of Tai's greatest lifelong passions and an important part of who she was. Her love for ballet began in childhood, and by her teenage years, she was already sharing her talents by teaching others. She went on to become a member of the Oakland Ballet and enjoyed the remarkable opportunity to dance internationally throughout her adult life. Her passion for movement and its ability to bring people together eventually led her to the Sacred Circle Dance tradition. For the past 20 years, Tai and her beloved husband, Michael, organized and led Sacred Circle Dance events throughout New England, sharing their love of music, movement, and community. Tai choreographed many original dances, often accompanied by live music performed by Michael. Together, they created meaningful experiences that brought joy, connection, and a sense of belonging to those who participated.
Tai was a woman of many passions who embraced life with a vibrant spirit, a compassionate heart, and a deep appreciation for nature and all living creatures. She found great joy in tending to her garden and expressing her creativity in the kitchen, where she became an exceptional vegan cook. Known for her colorful personality and equally colorful wardrobe, Tai loved wearing bright, cheerful clothing that reflected her individuality and zest for life. She had a wonderful way of bringing color, warmth, and positivity into the lives of those around her.
A passionate advocate for animal rights, Tai devoted much of her life to promoting the welfare and humane treatment of animals. She held a particularly special place in her heart for German Shepherds, rescuing and lovingly caring for many throughout the years. Her beloved dogs were far more than companions; they were cherished members of her family who brought her endless happiness and unconditional love. Whether advocating for those in need, caring for animals, or helping others find healing through movement and wellness, Tai approached life with kindness, determination, and an unwavering commitment to her beliefs.
Above all, Tai will be remembered for her compassionate nature, her remarkable spirit, and her dedication to making the world a kinder and more caring place. She lived her life with purpose and authenticity, never wavering from the causes and passions she held dear. Her legacy of love, creativity, and compassion will continue to live on through the many lives she touched.
Tai is survived by her beloved husband, Michael McGuinness of Barre; her sister, Debra Atkinson, and her husband, Mark, of California; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Graveside services for Tai will be held Monday, October 19, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. in Vermont Forest Cemetery, 750 Beaver Meadow Road, Roxbury, VT.
