Obituary

Steve "EJ" Favreau passed away on May 29, 2026, at the age of 66, leaving behind a world that could use a few more people like him.

Born to the late Donald Favreau and Georgianna (Nicholas) Favreau, Steve spent his life collecting memories and adventures wherever he went. He is survived by his devoted wife, Cecile Favreau; his daughters, Kira (Brian), Amanda (Matt), Samantha (Merson), and Demi; his stepsons, Deryk and Darin; and his seven beloved grandchildren, who knew him simply as "Punka"-a title he wore with pride. He was also the oldest of nine siblings and will be deeply missed by Cheryl, Mark, Russell, Donny, Bruce, Charlene, Bryan, and David.

He had a rare gift for finding wonder in ordinary moments. He could turn a simple outing into an adventure, a family gathering into a comedy show, and a random statue into a photo opportunity that absolutely could not be passed up. Whether he was performing a magic trick, dressing up in costume, showing you pictures from his latest travels, or sharing some crazy story, Steve brought light wherever he went.

Family was the center of his universe. He loved fiercely, showed up consistently, and never hesitated to be there when someone needed him. His children, grandchildren, siblings, and friends knew they could count on him-whether they needed advice, a helping hand, a laugh, or simply someone in their corner. He was proud of the people he loved and made sure they knew it.

As Punka, he was part grandfather, part magician, part adventurer, and full-time fun. His grandchildren adored his playful spirit, endless imagination, and willingness to turn even the most ordinary day into something memorable.

Steve believed life was meant to be experienced. He loved traveling, and his trips to Alaska, South Africa, Oregon and Hawaii were just a few of the amazing trips he took. He was always chasing new adventures and seeing what was waiting around the next corner. He found peace fishing, joy in caring for his fish tanks, and excitement in cheering for his favorite teams-especially football, a lifelong passion. Along with his brothers, he was inducted into the Narragansett Athletic Hall of Fame for their years of accomplishments on the field and they still give out the Donald Favreau Memorial trophy to an inspirational player every homecoming game. He loved great music, good company, and any opportunity to make memories with the people he loved. Steve worked for so many years at "The Factory Coop" making lifelong friendships and using his talent for woodworking and carpentry. When he moved to Virginia back in 2012, he started a new career working for UVA and after many years of hard work and dedication, he earned his Electrician certification in 2019 which he was so proud of!!

Perhaps the greatest gift Steve leaves behind is not just the memories he created, but the example he set.

Take the trip. Listen to the music. Laugh a little louder. Take the picture. Be curious. Be kind. Show up for your family. Find the magic hiding in everyday life. Steve did all of those things, and he made the world brighter because of it.

Though he will be deeply missed, his spirit lives on in every adventure taken, every song played too loud, every family gathering filled with laughter, and every moment when someone chooses wonder over worry. The stories will continue to be told, the memories will continue to be shared, and the love he gave so freely will continue to ripple through generations.

The world was a more magical place because Steve was in it.

Steve wasn't one for long goodbyes, formal ceremonies, or anything too serious and his wish was that we remember him by celebrating the life he loved so much.

Family and friends are invited to join us for a Celebration of Life on Sunday, June 28, 2026. Additional details will be shared soon.
