Ronald J. Theriault, 70, of Leominster, died peacefully Friday, January 26, 2024, in the comfort of his home.
Born in Grand Falls, New Brunswick, Canada, on April 30, 1953, he was the son of the late Romeo J. and Annete J. (Madore) Theriault. He graduated from Van Buren District High School in Van Buren, ME with the Class of 1973. Ron served in the United States Army during the Vietnam Era from 1974 to 1979, where he received the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. He was a water meter technician employed by the City of Leominster for 30 years prior to his retirement.
Ron had many ways of spending his retirement. He was an active member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #4577, Lodge of Elks #1237, the Wilder Masonic Lodge, the Leominster Sportsman’s Club, and a member of the Sterling Sportsman Club. When he wasn’t found in his garage working on his flawlessly manicured mustangs, or in his backyard on his tractor, he would grab his close friends and attempt to perfect his aim by spending time sending a few rounds down range. Ron was also the founder and curator of The Leominster’s Scouting Museum which serves as an engaging and interactive environment for visitors to experience New England’s Scouting throughout the years.
Ron is survived by his son, Andrew Theriault and his husband Peter of Maryland; two grandchildren, Alexis Theriault and her fiancé Dylan Surma of Virgina, and Jacob Glicas of Virgina; three brothers, Conrad Theriault and his wife Rose of Wisconsin, Guy Theriault and his wife Gisele of Maine and Rudy Theriault of Colorado; two sisters, Gay Bernier and her husband Mitchel of Maine and Gisele Minelli and her husband Jim of New York; a daughter-in-law, Crystal Theriault of Virginia; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by his wife of 36 years, Martha “Sam” J. (Anderson) Theriault, who died in 2014; two brothers, Daniel and Roger Theriault; and a sister, Lynn Smith.
