Roger R. Desolier, 91, of Gardner, died peacefully Thursday, June 20, 2024, in his home surrounded by his family after an illness.

Born in Gardner on June 1, 1933, he was the son of the late Raymond R. and Lilja (Kangas) Desolier. He graduated from Gardner High School with the Class of 1951. Roger was a United States Army Korean Era Veteran serving from 1954 to 1956, receiving the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. Roger was a construction worker employed by V. Pelletier for many years until his retirement. He was extremely proud to be a member of Local 39 Union since 1960. In his spare time Roger built chimneys and even built the chimney at the American Legion.

Roger loved to play cards, visit the casino, and play scratch tickets. He also loved to watch his favorite sport, football. He meddled with swimming in high school and continued to be an avid swimmer. Roger loved to spend time in his garden tending to his plants.

Roger is survived by his two daughters, Terri Desolier and her significant other, John Lashua of Gardner, and JP “Jane” Desolier and her husband Kelly McInerney of Gardner; two grandchildren, Dustin O'Brien and Dale Laperriere; cousins, Paul, Jack and Mary Kangas, and Rachael Hulette; and a dear friend, Roger Brideau.

He was predeceased by his brother, Raymond R. Desolier Jr.

The family would like to thank Care Central VNA and Hospice for their kindness and care.

Graveside Services with Military Honors will be held at the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 111 Glenallen Street, Winchendon, MA. Services will be private per Roger's request.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Gardner Animal Shelter c/o Gardner Police Department, 200 Main Street, Gardner, MA 01440, or your local Veterans center. Please reference in memory of Roger R. Desolier.
