Robert J. Charland, Esq., 58, of Gardner, passed away peacefully Tuesday, February 13, 2024, in Heywood Hospital, Gardner, after a short illness with his family by his side. 

Born in Gardner on September 16, 1965, he was the son of Suzanne (Cormier)Charland of Gardner and the late James Charland. He graduated from Gardner High School with the Class of 1983. He received his Bachelor Degree from Clark University of Worcester in 1987 and his Juris Doctorate from Massachusetts School of Law at Andover in 1995. At the time of his death, Bob was an attorney employed by Flick Law Group, PC of Gardner for several years. He was previously employed by Gelinas & Ward, LLP of Leominster for 25 years. 

Bob was a parishioner of the former Sacred Heart of Jesus Church of Gardner. He was a member of the Worcester County Bar Association, the Real Estate Bar Association, and the Northern Worcester County Bar Association—serving as its president from 2004 to 2006,. Bob was also a member and past director of the Acadien Social Club and a member of the Polish American Citizens Club, all of Gardner. 

Bob loved to stay active playing golf, traveling to play at many courses throughout the world—his favorite being Pebble Beach. Bob was also an avid hockey fan and enjoyed playing hockey as a goalie throughout his youth and recently in men’s leagues. He loved his time playing with Locker Room B and Fun Time Hockey League in Fitchburg. He also loved his time as a member and assistant treasurer of the Gillis Richard Senior Hockey League.  His greatest enjoyment was time with his family and friends, treasuring all their times together.  His children Abby and Nathan were the two most important people in his life and he treasured his role as their father. 

Besides his mother and her partner Ron Ahlstrom, Bob is survived by his two children Abigail J. Charland and her significant other Isabella Stephanos of Watertown and Nathan R. Charland of Watertown; a brother, Jef Charland and his wife Sandy Chin-Charland of Newton; a sister, Coreen Raterman and her husband Stephen of Shirley; several aunts, uncle, nieces, nephews and cousins; his former wife, Patricia Saunders; and all of his hockey and golf friends. 

Funeral Services will be held Saturday, February 17, 2024, with a Mass at 11:00 a.m. in Annunciation Parish at Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church, 135 Nichols Street, Gardner, MA. Those in attendance are asked to report directly to the church on the day of the service. Burial will be held at St. John’s Cemetery, West Street, Gardner, MA. 

Calling Hours will be held Friday, February 16, 2024, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in the Boucher Funeral Home, Inc, 110 Nichols Street, Gardner, MA.
