Rita M Cormier

Rita M. (Babineau) Cormier, 88, of 32 Hospital Hill Road, Gardner, formerly of 125 Connors Street, Gardner, died peacefully Saturday, March 12, 2016 in Wachusett Manor Nursing Home of Gardner, surrounded by her family, following a brief illness.
Born in Notre Dame, New Brunswick, Canada, on May 2, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Donat and Azelie (Richard) Babineau.
Rita became a United States Citizen in 2000, and earned her GED in 2001.
She was employed by Fontaine Brothers of Gardner as a stitcher for 20 years, retiring in 1992.
Rita was a member of Annunciation Parish/Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church of Gardner, and its Marie Rivier Adoration Chapel. She was a member of the Acadien Cultural Society of Fitchburg, member of the Greater Gardner Golden Agers, Life Guest Member of the Acadien Social Club of Gardner and member of A.A.R.P.
She enjoyed playing Bingo, watching "This Old House" and baseball and football on television, and was a huge Doug Flutie fan. Rita was a 10 year volunteer at Heywood Hospital of Gardner. She also volunteered for many years for Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church's annual bazaar, and enjoyed making poutines. Rita loved her grandchildren dearly, and enjoyed spending time with them.
Rita was predeceased by her husband of 53 years, Gerald J. Cormier, who died July 30, 2005.
She leaves five sons, Rene J. Cormier and his wife Jill of Gardner, Paul J. Cormier and his significant other Kelly Jancaitis of Gardner, Louis J. Cormier and his wife Lisa of Gardner, Eddie Cormier of Gardner and Hector Cormier and his wife Kathleen of Gardner; three daughters, Diana L. Andrews and her husband Joseph of Gardner; Geraldine M. Sampson and her husband Charles of Fitchburg and Gloria M. Gaboury and her husband Kevin of Gardner; three brothers, Aurele Babineau and his wife Therese of St. Antoine, N.B. Canada, Ernest Babineau and his wife Barbara of St. Antoine, N.B. Canada and Gerald Babineau and his wife Lucille of Montreal; four sisters, Aline Goguen of St. Antoine, N.B. Canada, Jeannette Girouard and her husband Paul of St. Antoine, N.B. Canada, Mai Cormier of Notre Dame, N.B. Canada and Louise Christopher and her husband Joseph of St. Antoine, N.B. Canada; two sisters-in-law, Bella Babineau of Montreal, Canada and Eugenie Babineau of Toronto, Canada; one brother-in-law, Yvon LeBlanc of St. Antoine, N.B. Canada; seventeen grandchildren, James, Joy, Brian, Jason, Melanie, Kristopher, Stacey, Curtis, Wendy, Pamela-Jo, Paul Jr, Matthew, Tricia, Tiffani, Shayne, Ella and Nora; twenty five great-grandchildren, Braeden, Arianna, Cailynn, Lilly, Zoe, Dylan, Cadence, Alex, Zach, Tanner, Preston, Autumn, Julia, Nicholas, Gavin, Cameron, Jacob, Evelyn, Catherine, Maliyah, Jasmine, Jayden, Tianna, Tiara and James Jr.; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Rita was predeceased by her three brothers, Donald, Yvon and Alphonse Babineau; two sisters, Lina LeBlanc and Marie Babineau; and by her grandson, Gerald Andrews.
Funeral Services will be held Friday, March 18th from the Boucher Funeral Home, Inc., 110 Nichols Street, Gardner with a Mass at 11:00 a.m. in Annunciation Parish/Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church, 135 Nichols Street, Gardner. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery, Gardner at a later date.
Calling hours will be held Thursday, March 17th from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the funeral home.
