Oscar J Maillet

Oscar J. Maillet, 82, of North Port, Florida, as well as a part-time resident of Gardner, MA, died peacefully, Friday, April 8, 2016 in Tidewell Hospice of Venice, FL, following a long illness.
Born in St. Marie, N.B. Canada on February 19, 1934, he was the son of the late Odilion and Laura (Cormier) Maillet.
Oscar spent several years of his life as a construction worker, working for several local construction companies in the Gardner area. He was co-owner of the former Maillet's Variety on West Street in Gardner.
He was a member of Annunciation Parish/Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church of Gardner and San Pedro Catholic Church of North Port, FL.
He enjoyed cooking, playing cards, bowling, fishing, spending time on his lobster boat in New England and shrimping in Florida. He treasured time with his family and friends and going out to eat. Much of his time was spent near the Florida waters, and he enjoyed soaking up the sunshine by the pool.
Oscar was a member of the Acadien Social Club of Gardner, the Napoleon Club of Gardner and Club 25 of Gardner.
He leaves his wife of 59 years, Lucille D. (Laliberte) Maillet of North Port, Florida; two sons, Roger J. Maillet and his wife Debra of Orange and Gerard J. Maillet and his wife Colleen of Gardner; four daughters, Laurine DiGeronimo and her husband David of Leominster, Denise Brooks and her husband Gary of Milton, GA, Therese Fournier and her husband Stephen of North Port, FL and Tina Fournier and her husband Mark of Dawsonville, GA; four brothers, Leo Maillet and his wife Bernice of Daytona, FL, Edward Maillet of Gardner, Romeo Maillet and his wife Gloria of St. Marie, N.B. Canada and George Maillet and his wife Rita of Quebec, Canada; two sisters, Sister Doris Maillet of Moncton, N.B. Canada and Irma Pierce of Chattanooga, TN; sister-in-law, Rita Maillet of Gardner; brother-in-law, Roger Barrieau; sixteen grandchildren, Tasha, Shaun and Gina DiGeronimo, Rebecca and Amy Maillet, Colby, Dawson and Shealyn Brooks, Stephany, Jared and Tyler Fournier; Cassie and Carlie Maillet, Brandon LaHood, Alicia and Alan Fournier; six great-grandchildren, Lex Tarbell, Vincent DiGeronimo and Boston, Bradyn, Bryce and Bryleigh Fournier; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by two brothers, Dave and Alphonse Maillet; and by one sister, Irene Barrieau.
Funeral Services will be held Monday, April 18th from the Boucher Funeral Home, Inc., 110 Nichols Street, Gardner with a Mass at 11:00 a.m. in Annunciation Parish/Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church, 135 Nichols Street, Gardner. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery, Gardner.
Calling hours will be held Sunday, April 17th from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the funeral home.
