Obituary

Normand J. Legere, 85, of Gardner, died peacefully Friday, May 22, 2026, in his home surrounded by his family, after a long illness.

Born in Saint-Antoine, New Brunswick, Canada, on April 1, 1941, he was the son of the late Edgar and Lina (LeBlanc) Legere. Normand was the Director of Buildings and Grounds for Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church of Gardner for 35 years until his retirement in 2006. He was previously employed by the George Bent Co. of Gardner as an assembler for 10 years.

Normand was a devoted parishioner of Annunciation Parish of Gardner, where he was instrumental in organizing its weekly Thursday BINGO for over 45 years, as well as assisting with its annual Bazaar, especially in the beloved "Poutine Factory." He was a member of the Acadien Social Club of Gardner and the Templeton Fish and Game Club, Inc. of Templeton, where he proudly served as bar manager for 40 years.

Normand was a true handyman who could fix just about anything. He found great joy in working with his hands and generously volunteering his time to help improve the many organizations that meant so much to him. He greatly loved playing horseshoes and golf whenever he was able, and he loved traveling with family and friends. Above all, Normand's greatest love was his family, treasuring every special memory, laughter, and moments shared together throughout the years.

Normand is survived by his wife of 64 years, Bernice (Richard) Legere of Gardner; the couple celebrated their anniversary on May 19th; two sons, Yvon Legere and his wife Kim of Gardner, and Paul Legere and his wife Karin of Pennsylvania; a daughter, Claudette Borey and her fiancé Bill Asbury of Gardner; eight grandchildren, Nicholas Borey, Jillian Lang, Eric Legere, Jocelyn Gamler, Emma Stianche, Ashley Reddy, Andrea Brisette, and Arielle Petrucci; nineteen great-grandchildren; four brothers, Ronald Leger of Gardner, Alderice Leger and his wife Raymonde, Robert Legere and his wife Yvonne, and Gerald Leger, all of New Brunswick; two sisters, Stella Allain and Maria Gallant and her husband Armand, all of New Brunswick; a son-in-law, Rob Maddocks of Clinton; as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was predeceased by a daughter, Denise Maddocks; a granddaughter, Nicole Borey; a brother-in-law, Bernard Allain; and two sisters-in-law, Velma and Lucille Leger.
