Michael P. Wirzbicki Sr., 89, of Gardner, died peacefully Monday, March 9, 2026, in UMass Memorial HealthAlliance-Clinton Hospital, Leominster, after an illness, with his loving family by his side.
Born in Gardner on February 17, 1937, he was the son of the late Edward J. and Mary A. (Gorska) Wierzbicki. Michael proudly served in the United States Air Force from 1955 to 1958, earning his High School Equivalency Degree and receiving the Good Conduct Medal. He was a jack of all trades, with special interest in electronics that served him well over a long career at MIT Lincoln Laboratory, on Hanscom Airforce Base in Cambridge, MA. His most memorable achievements being his participation in a number satellite launches at NASA, FL critical to National Security Systems.
Michael was a devoted parishioner of Annunciation Parish in Gardner, practicing at Holy Spirit Church prior to its merger. He was a past member of the Lodge of Elks and the Gardner Fish and Gun of Gardner. Michael's personal interests included spending time outdoors tending to his gardens, fishing, and hunting. He took his family on many camping trips all throughout New England. Later he and his wife traveled frequently to the Northwest visiting his son's family and exploring the region. He took great pride in supporting his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, rarely missing their school and sporting events. Family was Michael's greatest joy, and the time spent together created many treasured memories.
Michael is survived by his beloved wife, Virginia E. (Carlson) Wirzbicki of Gardner; four sons, Michael P. Wirzbicki Jr. and his wife Cecelia of Gardner, Mark A. Wirzbicki and his wife Michelle of Gardner, Brian W. Wirzbicki and his wife Susie of Olympia, WA, and David P. Wirzbicki and his wife Zulmira of Gardner; a daughter, Linda M. Moran and her husband John of Gardner; ten grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; a brother, Joseph Wierzbicki of Indiana; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was predeceased by two brothers, Edward Wierzbicki Jr. and George Wierzbicki; and a sister, Sabina Evans.
Calling Hours will be held Monday, March 16, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. in the Boucher Funeral Home, Inc., 110 Nichols Street, Gardner, MA. Funeral Services will follow from the funeral home with a Mass at 12:30 p.m. in Annunciation Parish, 135 Nichols Street, Gardner, MA. Burial with Military Honors will follow at the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 111 Glenallen Street, Winchendon, MA.
