Mary-Ellen Chanley

October 22, 1950 — February 20, 2018

Mary-Ellen (Robertie) Chanley, 67, of Gardner, died peacefully Tuesday, February 20, 2018 in her residence surrounded by family, after a 10 year battle with Alzheimer's disease.
Born in Boston on October 22, 1950, she was the daughter of Norbert and Frances (O'Conner) Robertie. Mary-Ellen graduated from Wakefield High School with the Class of 1969.
She was a member of Annunciation Parish/Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church of Gardner, and its Ladies of Ste. Anne Society.
Mary-Ellen found her calling when she became a Preschool Teacher. She taught at Our Lady of the Holy Rosary's Parish preschool 'Little Learners' for many years. In addition to her teaching career which she truly loved, Mary-Ellen enjoyed music and dance. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who treasured spending time with her grandchildren.
Besides her father, Norbert Robertie of Marblehead, she leaves her husband of 47 years, Richard C. Chanley of Gardner; one son, Phillip S. Chanley and his wife Le of Franklyn Lakes, NJ; one daughter, Michelle M. Leger and her husband David of Hubbardston; one brother, Norbert "Joe" Robertie and his wife Christine of Rumney, NH; sister-in-law, Patricia Robertie of Plymouth, NH, who was married to her predeceased brother, William Robertie; six grandchildren, Alyssa, Cloe, Bret, Julia, Madelyn and Brandon; and several nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Mass will be held Saturday, February 24th at 9:00 a.m. in Annunciation Parish/Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church, 135 Nichols Street, Gardner. Burial will be in the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery of Winchendon at a later date. Friends and family are asked to report directly to the church the morning of the service.
Calling hours will be held Friday, February 23rd from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in the Boucher Funeral Home, Inc., 110 Nichols Street, Gardner.
Memorial contributions may be made payable to Richard Chanley, 43 Barthel Avenue, Gardner, MA 01440. The funds will be used for a scholarship in Mary-Ellen's memory for a local pre-school child to attend Holy Family Academy, which was formerly Our Lady of the Holy Rosary School.
