Obituary

Marguerite R. (Bourgeois) Pouliot, 90, of Gardner, died peacefully on Saturday, November 22, 2025, in Maplewood Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, Amesbury, following a period of declining health, with the love of her family surrounding her.

Born in Gardner on April 19, 1935, Marguerite was the daughter of the late Edward and Della (Goyette) Bourgeois. A proud graduate of Gardner High School, Class of 1953, she went on to enjoy a dedicated 30-year career as a billing clerk with C.H. Hartshorn of Gardner, retiring in 1993. She also worked seasonally with the Internal Revenue Service.

Marguerite was a lifelong parishioner of Annunciation Parish in Gardner, where she found faith, friendship, and a sense of purpose. As a dedicated volunteer at the church bazaar, she spent the year creating numerous knitted items to share with her community. She found joy in the simple pleasures of life, from making afghans for family and friends to spending time at bingo, playing cards, or working through crossword puzzles. She loved singing and dancing at nursing homes and enjoyed the years she spent square dancing with her husband, Paul. Whether browsing the aisles of Walmart or going out to eat with friends, she embraced every moment. Always the life of the party, using her quick wit and warm sense of humor to bring laughter to everyone around her. Above all, Marguerite cherished her family, treasuring every visit, conversation, and milestone; they were the greatest joy of her life.

She leaves behind her daughter, Judy Payne of Newmarket, NH; three grandchildren, Brian Payne and his wife Michelle of Beverly, Stacy Payne and her husband James Flaherty of Bonaire, Caribbean Netherlands and April Payne and her husband Kurt Schnackenberg of Dover, NH; her great-grandchild, Simon Payne of Beverly, and step great-grandchildren Jack and Grace Flaherty of Peabody; and many nieces, nephews, and her cousin, Claire Meehan, all of whom she deeply treasured.

She now rests in eternal peace, reunited with her husband, Paul A. Pouliot, who died in 1995, her son, Steven Pouliot, who died in 2022, and son-in-law, Charles (Tony) Payne, who died in 2024.

A Calling Hour will be held Friday, November 28, 2025, from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. in Boucher Funeral Home, Inc., 110 Nichols Street, Gardner, MA. Funeral Services will follow with a Mass at 11:00 a.m. in Annunciation Parish, 135 Nichols Street, Gardner, MA. Burial will be held at Notre Dame Cemetery, West Street, Gardner, MA.
