Obituary

Margaret (McKay) Savoie, 84, of East Templeton, died peacefully on Monday, July 6, 2026, at Athol Memorial Hospital, after a long illness.

Born on March 19, 1942, in Port Glasgow, Scotland, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Mary (McGhee) McKay. Margaret was employed as a cafeteria worker at the Templeton Developmental Center in Templeton for many years until her retirement.

Margaret was a devoted parishioner of Holy Cross Church in Templeton, where she faithfully served as a member of the church's cleaning team. She found joy in life's simple pleasures, whether taking peaceful walks, singing, relaxing with a good book, or traveling to new places. Above all, Margaret cherished the time she spent with her family. Family outings, holiday gatherings, and everyday moments together brought her the greatest happiness, and the love, laughter-especially from her jokes, and memories they shared will forever be treasured by those who knew and loved her.

Margaret is survived by her husband, Rene Savoie of East Templeton; two daughters, Ann Knight and her husband, Steve, of Baldwinville, and Susan Trudeau of Fitchburg; a son, Steven Savoie and his wife, Kathleen, of Athol; three grandchildren, Danielle Dumont and her husband, Nicholas, Joshua Knight, and Nicholas Savoie; a great-grandchild on the way; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was predeceased by her two sisters, Kathleen Gundlach and Rose McKay.
