Margaret J. Harris

Margaret “Peggy” J. (Sawyer) Harris, 79, of Templeton, died peacefully Thursday, November 2, 2023.

Born in Winchendon on June 30, 1944, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Hattie Florence (Gordon) Sawyer. Peggy spent her life taking care of others. She cared for individuals with intellectual disabilities at Templeton Development Center until she retired. She spent many years after retirement as a home health aide caring for the elderly.

Peggy was a parishioner of Holy Cross Church of East Templeton, where she volunteered as a kindergarten CCD teacher. She would open up her home after church on Sundays for coffee. She loved to spend time at their cabin in Maine with her family. She enjoyed it most when she could share her time there with the family and spoil her grandchildren. Margaret’s greatest joy was her family, especially her grandchildren, treasuring all the time spent with them.

Peggy is survived by her seven grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren; a son-in-law, Glen Bishop of Templeton; a sister, Dorothy Glockner and her husband Thomas of Westminster; her brother, Joseph Sawyer of Southbridge; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was predeceased by her husband of 47 years, Danny L. Harris; her two sons, Shawn D. Harris and Dwayne J. Harris; her daughter, Brenda D. Bishop; and two sisters, Beverly LeBlanc and Carolyn White.

Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, November 8, 2023, with a Mass at 10:00 a.m. in Holy Cross Church, 25 Lake Avenue, Templeton, MA. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery, Bridge Street, Baldwinville, MA.

There are no calling hours. Family and friends are asked to report directly to the church on the day of the service.
