Leon J. Bagdonis, 83, of 93 Dudley Road, Templeton, died Thursday in Heywood Hospital, Gardner, following an illness.
Born in Athol on February 24, 1920, he was the son of Joseph and Eleanora (Rimsa) Bagdonas.
He was a Maintenance Supervisor for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts at Rutland State Hospital for 12 years until his retirement in 1982. He previously worked as a self-employed trucker.
Mr. Bagdonis was a member of Holy Cross Church, E. Templeton; member and past Commander of VFW Ovila Case Post 905 of Gardner; member and past Commander of Disabled American Veterans, Chapter 70, Gardner; member and past president of Gardner Veterans Council and member of the Gardner Lodge of Elks #1462.
He was a WWII US Army veteran and served in the European Theater.
His wife, Ida M. (LeBlanc) Bagdonis died in 1987.
He leaves a brother, Augustin Bagdonas of Elmira, NY; 3 sisters, Francis Hadjukiewicz of Clearwater, FL, Matilda Bullock of Gardner; and Virginia Linnus of Westminster; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by a sister Betty Unick of Hanover, MA.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday from the Boucher Funeral Home, Inc, 110 Nichols Street, Gardner, with a Mass at 11:00 am in Holy Cross Church, 25 Lake Street, E. Templeton. Burial will be in Gethsemane Cemetery, Athol.
A calling hour at the funeral home will be Wednesday from 9:30 am to 10:30 am.
