Leo P. Cormier, 89, of Gardner, died peacefully Thursday, May 8, 2025, in his home after a period of declining health with his family by his side.
Born in Gardner on June 6, 1935, he was the son of the late Edward and Celina M. (Lajoie) Cormier. Leo proudly served in the Massachusetts Army National Guard for 21 years until being honorably discharged in 1973. He was employed by the City of Gardner as the head custodian at City Hall for 25 years until his retirement. Prior to that he worked as an upholster for various companies.
Leo was a parishioner of Annunciation Parish of Gardner, practicing at its Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church, and was previously a parishioner of the former Sacred Heart of Jesus Church. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved to go camping, take trips to the beach and spending time by the water fishing. Leo also greatly enjoyed watching television game shows and was known for making hockey pucks out of potatoes. Leo's greatest joy and love was his family, treasuring all the memories made.
Leo is survived by his two daughters, Anne Dombrowski and her husband Alan of Hubbardston and Beth Cormier and her husband Kevin of Gardner; grandchildren, Adam Cormier and his fiancé Rebecca Redwine of Greenville, NH, and Kristi Wing and her husband Jason of Athol; great-grandchildren, Logan Wing and his significant other Lexie Forte and Drake Wing; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by his wife of 56 years, Carol A. (Dupont) Cormier, who died in 2013; and his four siblings, Lauraine Pilesky, Ronald, Edgar, and Edmund Cormier.
A Visitation will be held Thursday, May 15, 2025, from 10:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. in the Boucher Funeral Home, Inc., 110 Nichols Street, Gardner, MA. Funeral Services will follow at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home. Burial with Military Honors will be held at St. John's Cemetery, West Street, Gardner, MA.
