Leandre J. Cormier, 87, of Gardner, died peacefully Saturday, November 20, 2021, in Quabbin Valley Healthcare, Athol, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s Disease.

Born in St. Paul, New Brunswick, Canada, on May 14, 1934, he was the son of the late Alderic and Jeanne (Girouard) Cormier. He graduated from St. Joseph University, St. Joseph, NB, Canada, School of Agriculture with a Degree in Agriculture. Leandre was a Truck Driver and Tractor/ Backhoe Operator employed by People’s Fuel of Gardner for 40-years until his retirement in 1998.

Leandre was a parishioner of Annunciation Parish/ Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church of Gardner. He was a member of the Acadien Social Club of Gardner, a life member of the Templeton Fish and Game Club, Inc. of Templeton, and was a member of the Monsignor Francois Richard Monument Association in Rogersville, NB, Canada. Leandre was a former animal judge for the 4H Club of New Brunswick. He loved to work in his garden, along with his wife Anna, and their sons, growing an array of vegetables. He enjoyed playing cards at several local clubs and doing work around his house. Leandre’s greatest joy and the time he truly loved and cherished the most was time spent with his family.

Leandre is survived by his wife of 60- years, Anna D. (Richard) Cormier of Gardner; four sons, Paul L. Cormier of Gardner, Normand J. Cormier and his wife Michele of Templeton, Roger A. Cormier and his wife Suzanne of Gardner, and Robert R. Cormier and his wife Rachel of Gardner; eight grandchildren, Krista Langlois and her husband Zachary of Malden, Jacob Cormier and his significant other Brianne Charpentier of Gardner, Timothy Cormier and his wife Laurie of Warren, Brighton and Ava Cormier of Gardner, Annie, Nathan, and Delaney Cormier of Gardner; a great-granddaughter Everly Cormier; a sister, Dorilla Cormier of Marlborough; a sister-in-law, Edna Cormier of Kelowna, BC, Canada; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by his brothers, Emile and Gerald Cormier; and a sister, Yvette Cormier.

Funeral Services will be held Monday, November 29, 2021, from the Boucher Funeral Home, Inc., 110 Nichols Street, Gardner, MA, with a Mass at 10:00 a.m. in Annunciation Parish at Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church, 135 Nichols Street, Gardner, MA. Burial will follow at Notre Dame Cemetery, West Street, Gardner, MA.

Calling Hours will be held Sunday, November 28, 2021, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. in the funeral home.

The family asks that all those in attendance please adhere to wearing masks.
