Larry G. Bennett, 75, of Fitchburg, died peacefully Friday, August 18, 2023, in his home surrounded by his family after an illness.

Born in Newport, Vermont, on November 23, 1947, he was the son of the late Robert C. and Janet P. (Morin) Bennett. He graduated from Ashby High School with the Class of 1966. Larry was a United States Air Force Vietnam War Veteran serving from 1966 to 1970, where he received the National Defense Service Medal, and the Air Force Good Conduct Medal. Larry was a First-Class Steam Engineer employed by NRG Services of Auburn for many years prior to his retirement.

Larry was a parishioner of St. Joseph’s Church of Fitchburg. He was an avid fan of Western movies and science fiction books. Larry enjoyed going for walks with his dog, taking care of his pool and yard. Larry loved to play golf and tried to get out on the course as much as possible. His greatest joy in life was his family, always treasuring the special memories throughout the years.

Larry is survived by his wife of 56 years, Donna M. (Mascis) Bennett of Fitchburg; a son, Michael R. Bennett and his wife Stacie of Barre; Lisa M. Wilson and her husband Stephen of Fulton, MD; seven grandchildren, Nalani Stewart of Maryland, Kennedy Englehardt and her husband Daniel of Hubbardston; Gabrielle O’Malley of Templeton, Riley Bennett of Barre, Zachary O’Malley of Templeton, Hunter Bennett of Hubbardston and Phoenix Wilson of Maryland; four great-grandchildren, Ren Gallaher, Baer Stilling, Judge Williams and Bennett Robert Englehardt (arriving soon); two brothers, Greg Bennett and his wife Judy of Rhode Island, Russell Bennett and his wife Pattie of New Hampshire; six sisters, Gail Messer and her husband Oscar of Townsend, Deb Kiney and her husband James of Rutland, Darlene Bergeron and her husband Brian of Fitchburg, Brenda Skrzypczak and her husband John of Ashburnham, Kim Forysth of Ashby, and Robin McRae of Ashby; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral Services will be held Monday, September 11, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. in the Boucher Funeral Home, Inc., 110 Nichols Street, Gardner, MA. A Celebration of Larry’s Life will follow at the Otter River Sportsman’s Club, 250 Lord Road, Templeton, MA.

Calling Hours will be held Monday, September 11, 2023, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.in the funeral home.
