Obituary

Joseph "Al" A. Drouin, 97, of Vernon, VT, formerly of Templeton, died peacefully after an illness at Brattleboro Memorial Hospital in Brattleboro, Vermont.

Born in Gardner on May 3, 1929, he was the son of the late Alfred J. and Beatrice F. (Bourgeault) Drouin. He graduated from Gardner High School in 1948 and attended the University of Massachusetts Amherst. Al was a United States Navy Korean War veteran, serving from 1948 to 1952 aboard the USS Kula Gulf. He was employed by Simplex Time Recorder in its Fire Alarm Division for 32 years, serving as Manager of Industrial Affairs until his retirement in 1995. He was previously employed by General Electric in Pittsfield.

Al was a member of American Legion Post 193 of Winchendon and the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed bowling, reading, working on puzzles, and golfing. He was an avid football fan and especially enjoyed cheering on the Boston Red Sox.

He is survived by his two sons, Stephen P. Drouin and his wife, Margurite, of Leominster, and Thomas M. Drouin and his wife, Laurie, of Winchendon; a daughter, Christine M. Leamy of Gorham, ME; two stepdaughters, Katherine Hebert and her husband, Normand, of Vernon, VT, and Sheila Dansky and her husband, Kirk, of Winchendon; twelve grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was predeceased by his first wife of 27 years, Kathy Drouin; his second wife of 20 years, Peg Griffin; his third wife of 12 years, Pearl M. Reinikainen; his siblings, John, Eugene, and George Drouin, Rachel Brouillet, Marie Pauline Murray, and Anna Richard; and his grandson, Justin Drouin.

Burial with Military Honors will follow in the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 111 Glenallen Street, Winchendon, MA on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, at 11:00 a.m.
