Joseph J. Bastarache

July 14, 1929 — April 20, 2022

Joseph J. Bastarache, 92, of Gardner, died peacefully Wednesday, April 20, 2022, in Alliance Health at Baldwinville, Baldwinville, after an illness with his family by his side.

Born in Bouctouche, New Brunswick, Canada, on July 14, 1929, he was the son of the late Elzear and Mary Lou (Arsenault) Bastarache. He was an Assembler employed by Nichols & Stone of Gardner for several years prior to his retirement in 1993. He was previously employed by the Heywood-Wakefield Co. and George Bent Co., both of Gardner.

Joseph was a parishioner of Annunciation Parish/ Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church of Gardner. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved going fishing and hiking. Joseph’s greatest joy was found when he was with his family, always treasuring the times spent together.

Joseph is survived by his daughter, Donna Bastarache of Gardner; two sons, Donald N. Bastarache of Gardner and Dennis G. Bastarache and his wife Donna White of Sunderland; two grandchildren, Amanda Bastarache and her wife Sonya of Palmer and Derick Bastarache of Gardner; two brothers, Jerome Bastarache of Canada and Arthur Bastarache and his wife Cecelia of Gardner; two sisters, Maria Cormier of Bouctouche, NB, Canada, and Sr. Regina Premilia Bastarache of Missouri; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was predeceased by his wife of 63-years, Gloria (LeBlanc) Bastarache, who died in 2013; three brothers, Neri, Romeo, and Adrian Bastarache; and two sisters, Elise Ann Richard, and Angel Cormier.

Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, May 4, 2022, from the Boucher Funeral Home, Inc., 110 Nichols Street, Gardner, MA, with a Mass at 11:00 a.m. in Annunciation Parish at Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church, 135 Nichols Street, Gardner, MA. Burial will follow at Notre Dame Cemetery, West Street, Gardner, MA.

A Calling Hour will be held Wednesday, May 4, 2022, from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. in the funeral home.
