John Allen Walker, 83, of Ashburnham, died peacefully Sunday, May 24, 2026, in UMass Memorial Medical Center-University Campus, Worcester surrounded by family.
Born in Elba, Alabama, on December 5, 1942, he was the son of the late Howard and Lema (Rice) Walker. He graduated from Elba (AL) High School and went on to serve in the United States Marine Corps. He was a Vietnam Veteran. He worked for F.W. Lombard of Ashburnham for 41 years until his retirement.
John was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Ashburnham. He was a 35 year member of the Lions Club. He coached Little League and Youth Soccer. He enjoyed reading, working on word searches, and watching sports. A true handyman, John could fix just about anything and was always willing to lend a hand to help someone in need. Above all, his greatest love was his family, and he treasured the many memories they shared together.
John is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Mary A. (Gillis) Walker of Ashburnham, and children, Melissa Walker of Ashburnham and Timothy Walker and his wife Kathleen, of Eliot, Maine; three grandchildren, Owen, Alice, and Emma Walker; siblings, Fay Arrington of AL, Harold Walker and his wife Betty of AL , Richard Walker of Rutland, VT, Charles Walker and his wife Mary John of AL, Florence Gilmore of AL, Katherine Fernandez and her husband Andrew of Jacksonville, FL, and Karen Lindstrom of AL; brother-in-law, John Gillis and his wife Patricia of South Hamilton, MA; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was predeceased by his siblings, June Hardy, James Walker and David Walker.
Graveside Services will be held at a later date at the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 111 Glenallen Street, Winchendon, MA.
