John M. Smart

John M Smart, 77, of Gardner, MA passed away Wednesday, March 9, 2022, at UMass Memorial Medical Center of a long-lasting illness.

Born in Utica, New York, on February 19, 1945, he was the son of the late George and Mary (Tyler) Smart. He graduated from Lyon Mountain High School with the Class of 1963.

John was known by many in the community for his art in plastering. He lived a wonderful life cherishing time spent with family. Of many things, his favorite was to take trips to the White Mountains with his wife and children. He was a very active man who enjoyed hiking in the mountains, and fishing with family and friends. John always loved good soul music and dancing till there was no one left to dance with. Many knew John as a man of God. He found fulfillment in Preaching.

John is survived by his wife of 32-vears, Kandace "Kandi" A. (Gagne) Smart of Gardner; a son, Michael Smart and his fiancé Alysha Higbie of Athol; a daughter, Kandace Nguyen of Gardner; his mother-in-law, Leonette Gagne of Gardner; three grandchildren, Vincent Tambolleo, Addaline and Charlotte Smart; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Funeral Services will be Saturday, March 26, 2022, from the Boucher Funeral Home, Inc., 110 Nichols Street, Gardner, MA, with a Mass at 11:00 a.m. in Annunciation Parish at Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church, 135 Nichols Street, Gardner, MA.

A Calling Hour will be held Saturday, March 26, 2022, from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. in the funeral home.
