John W. Jalutkewicz, 81, formerly of Gardner, Lunenburg, and Rindge, NH, died peacefully with his children by his side on Wednesday, October 18, 2023.
John was born in Gardner on November 9, 1941, he was the son of the late Konstanty and Louise (Brideau) Jalutkewicz. He was a 1959 graduate of Gardner High School and went on to earn degrees in education from Fitchburg State College. He taught science at The Winchendon School and in the Littleton Public Schools before returning to Gardner to work for his father-in-law at Modern Contract Furniture and later as a co-owner with his wife at R. Smith Furniture.
John is survived by his wife of 56 years, Sheila (Caouette) Jalutkewicz; his daughter, Jane and son-in-law, Jim; his son, Jay, daughter-in-law, Ginny, and grandson, Hudson; and his brother, Tom.
A Mass of Remembrance will be held Friday, May 17, 2024, at 12:00 p.m. in Annunciation Parish at Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church, 135 Nichols Street, Gardner, MA. A Celebration of Life will follow at the Otter River Sportsman Club, 250 Lord Road, Templeton, MA.
Burial at St. John’s Cemetery, West Street, Gardner, MA will be private and held at the convenience of the family.
John was a notably kind, loving, and generous man, inspired by his deep Catholic faith. If you would like to honor his memory, donations in support of his wife to the Alzheimer’s Association, 225 N. Michigan Avenue, Chicago, IL 60601 or on their website at (www.alz.org) or to a longtime favorite charity Habitat for Humanity, PO Box 4255, Rock Hill, SC 29732 or on their website at (www.yorkcountyhabitat.org/) would be very welcome in lieu of flowers, as would choosing to bestow an act of kindness on another as a remembrance of John.
