John M. Flick, Esq., 57, of Gardner, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 19, 2025, at UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester, from complications of a heart attack.
Born in Glen Ridge, New Jersey, on October 27, 1967, John was the son of George L. and Carol (Patterson) Flick. He graduated in 1986 from Seneca Valley High School in Harmony, Pennsylvania, and went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts degree in Finance from Grove City College, graduating with the Class of 1990. In 1996, he received his Master of Divinity degree from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary in South Hamilton, Massachusetts. John later earned his Juris Doctorate degree in 2001 from Suffolk University Law School in Boston and was admitted to the Bar of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and the United States District Court for the District of Massachusetts. He was the founder and principal shareholder of Flick Law Group, PC, in Gardner, where he practiced until his passing.
John was a member of the Worcester County Bar Association and the Massachusetts Municipal Lawyers Association. He also served as Vice President of the Northern Worcester County Bar Association and, from 2009 to 2010, was Co-Chair of its Labor and Employment Practice Group. Boston Magazine listed him as a Rising Star from 2008 to 2012 in their Super Lawyers Edition.
For 17 years, John served as the City Solicitor for the City of Gardner. He was deeply involved in his community, serving on the Board of Trustees of Heywood Healthcare and Care Central VNA Hospice, Inc. He also contributed his time as a member of the Board of Directors for the North Central United Way and was an active member of the Gardner Rotary Club. Additionally, John served on the Ethics Committee of Henry Heywood Memorial Hospital, was a board member of the Greater Gardner Chamber of Commerce and chaired its Legislative Affairs Committee.
In his free time, John enjoyed playing golf, cycling, skiing, and taking road trips to Maine, Colorado, and Ohio. The moments he cherished most were those spent with his family.
Besides his parents, John is survived by his beloved wife of 31 years, Brigitte (Lavoie) Flick of Gardner; a son, Hayden Flick of Ohio; a daughter, Lindsey Flick of Colorado; a brother, Jamie Flick and his wife Fara of Alabama; a sister, Jennifer Holaday and her husband Rodney, of Ohio; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A period of visitation will be held Thursday, August 21, 2025 from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. with a Celebration of Life Ceremony starting at 5:00 p.m. in the Perry Auditorium at Gardner City Hall, 95 Pleasant Street, Gardner, MA.
