Helen Irene Dubuc, 97, passed away peacefully on April 14, 2025, in Las Vegas, Nevada, just two days after celebrating her birthday.
She was born on April 12, 1928, in Worcester, Massachusetts to the late Raymond J. and Helen K. (Donahue) Maynard.
A graduate of North Grafton High School, Helen worked as a secretary before marrying Barney, an entertainer. Together, they traveled extensively before settling in Daytona Beach Shores, Florida. Helen worked for United Way and briefly managed an apartment complex before the family relocated to Las Vegas in 1968.
In Las Vegas, she held positions at McCarran Airport and later with the Clark County Library System, where she earned a reputation as a valued and dedicated employee. After many years of service, she retired to care for her brother Gary, who had Parkinson’s Disease—an act that exemplified her deep sense of family and compassion.
Helen was a woman of strong faith and attended St. Thomas More Catholic Community in Henderson, NV. When she could no longer attend in person, she faithfully watched Mass on television. She was once featured in *Reader’s Digest* for returning a wallet during an honesty experiment, a reflection of her integrity and character. Helen faced the challenges of COPD and congestive heart failure in her later years, conditions that eventually claimed her life.
She is survived by her loving son, David Dubuc of Las Vegas, NV, along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends who will forever remember her kindness, strength, and unwavering love. She will be truly missed.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Fernand “Barney” R. Dubuc; her daughter, Mary Dubuc; and her brothers, Richard E. Maynard, Francis “Gary” Maynard, Raymond J. Maynard, and Robert E. Maynard.
A Funeral Mass will be held on May 14, 2025 at 10:00 a.m., in Annunciation Parish at Holy Rosary Church, 135 Nichols St., Gardner, MA 01440. Burial will follow at Notre Dame Cemetery, West Street, Gardner, MA 01440.
