Grace E. Jean

Grace E. (Dixon) Jean, 99, of Gardner, died peacefully, Tuesday, July 28, 2020, in Heywood Hospital, Gardner, after a brief illness with her family by her side.

Born in Gardner on April 3, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Stella (Fregeau) Dixon. Grace was a graduate of Gardner High School with the Class of 1939. She was a secretary for the sales department at Nichols & Stone of Gardner for 10-years until her retirement in 1970.

Grace was a parishioner of the former Sacred Heart of Jesus Church of Gardner. She was a member of the Holy Family Guild, the Catholic Women’s Club, a Girl Scout Leader, the Gardner Chapter of AARP, and was a Friend of the Levi Heywood Memorial Library and the Gardner Museum. She loved to bake, read, quilt, sew, play golf and go bowling. She was an avid fan of both the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, who loved and cherished time spent with her family.

Grace is survived by her two daughters, Patricia J. Sadin and her spouse Thomas of Washington, MA, and Virginia M. Hakkinen and her spouse William of Ledyard, CT; a sister, Virginia Craig of Duncan, OK; four grandchildren, James Sadin and his significant other Jill Schroeder of Ware, MA, Thomas Sadin and his spouse Kimberly of Aledo, TX, Erika Hendrick and her spouse Amy of Uncasville, CT, and Kimberly Marlin and her spouse Todd of Litchfield, NH; eight great-grandchildren, Amanda Rosen and her spouse Jay of Southboro, MA, David Sadin of Rutland, MA, T.J. and Vivian Sadin of Aledo, TX, Sawyer Hakkinen- Hendrick of Uncasville, CT, and Gracie Hendrick of Uncasville, CT,  Griffin and Adalyn Marlin of Litchfield, NH ; many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was predeceased by her husband of 65-years, Henry Jean, who died in 2008. 

Calling Hours are private. 

Funeral Services will be held Thursday, August 6, 2020, at 3:00 p.m. in Annunciation Parish at Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church, 135 Nichols Street, Gardner, MA. A private burial will be held at a later date in St. John’s Cemetery, West Street, Gardner. Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, there will be no reception following the service. 

Due to the current COVID-19 Pandemic, current restrictions set in place by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts will be in effect at Grace’s services.

Memorial Contributions may be made to the House of Peace and Education, 29 Pleasant Street, Gardner, MA 01440 or to the Friends of the Levi Heywood Memorial Library, 55 W Lynde Street, Gardner, MA 01440 or to the Gardner Rehabilitation and Nursing Center Activities Fund, 59 Eastwood Circle, Gardner, MA 01440.
