Germaine (Savoie) Sawyer, 98, of Gardner, died peacefully Saturday, February 6, 2021, of natural causes at Wachusett Manor, Gardner, MA.
Born in Bouctouche, New Brunswick, Canada, on February 28, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Laura (Poirier) Savoie. Germaine attended school in Bouctouche, New Brunswick, Canada.
After marrying her husband Henry, they moved to Gardner from Canada and worked as motel managers. They managed the Town Crier Motel in Westminster, the Newcastle Inn in Newcastle, ME, the Caza Manor Inn in Ayer, the West Boylston Inn in West Boylston, and the Leominster Motor Inn in Leominster.
Germaine was a parishioner of the former Sacred Heart of Jesus Church of Gardner and Annunciation Parish of Gardner. Her passion was cooking, and she loved to make meals for everyone. Germaine was a gentle soul who loved to take care of everyone, but the time she loved the most was spent with her family.
Germaine and her husband did not have biological children, but raised their niece Diane (Savoie) Ballweg of Gardner.
Germaine is survived by two sisters, Anna Zelnia of Oakham and Agnes Gallant of Gardner; two brothers, Ernest Savoie of Leominster and Norman Savoie of Bouctouche, NB, Canada; and many nieces, nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Henry Sawyer; a sister, Bertha LeBlanc; and four brothers, Gerald, Leandre, Alderice, and George Savoie.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday, February 13, 2021, with a Mass at 11:00 a.m. in Annunciation Parish at Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church, 135 Nichols Street, Gardner, MA. Burial at St. John’s Cemetery, West Street, Gardner, MA, will be held at a later date.
Due to COVID-19, a Calling Hour will be private.
Masks and Social Distancing will be required.
