Eva M
Gemborys
November 3, 1925 – May 15, 2026
Eva M. (Richard) Gemborys, 100, of Gardner, died peacefully Friday, May 15, 2026, in her home, after a period of declining health.
Born in Rumford, Maine, on November 3, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Auguste J. and Alminie M. (Gallant) Richard. She graduated from Gardner High School, Class of 1944.
Eva was a devoted parishioner of the former Sacred Heart of Jesus Church of Gardner, where she faithfully served as a CCD teacher for 13 years. Deeply committed to her community, she dedicated much of her life to helping children and individuals with special needs. Eva served on several local boards, including North Central Human Services and the Office of Children, always striving to make a difference in the lives of others. She was also active as an ombudsman in local nursing homes and was especially proud of the years she and her husband spent as foster parents to many children between 1965 and 1980. Eva found great fulfillment in serving others and giving back to her community in any way she could.
In her quieter moments, Eva enjoyed crocheting, sewing and knitting. She found the peacefulness of being in her gardens, tending them with love and care. Above all, her greatest joy in life was her family. She treasured every moment spent together and held close to the many memories, traditions, and love they shared throughout the years.
Eva is survived by her two sons, Mark Gemborys and his wife Janet of Rutland and James Gemborys and his wife Carol of Leavenworth, Kansas; four grandchildren, Brian Gemborys, Nicole McGurin, Brandon Chase, and Rhea Chase; six great-grandchildren, Evan McGurin, Liam McGurin, Henry Gemborys, Hazel Gemborys, Adian Butt, and Cameron Butt; two sisters, Alfreda M. Bergeron of Gardner and Cecelia M. Richard of Gardner; as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Eugene A. Gemborys, who died in 2023; her two daughters, Paula Chase and Dodie Gemborys; a sister, Mary Marguerite Alma M. Richard; and her brothers, Robert J. and Alfred A. Richard.
