Douglas R. Young

Douglas R. “Doug” Young, 80, of East Templeton, died peacefully, Tuesday, June 23, 2020, in Heywood Hospital, Gardner, after a long illness.

Born in Winchendon on November 12, 1939, he was the son of the late William P. Young, Jr. and Evelyn (Croteau) Young. He was a graduate of Murdock High School of Winchendon. He was a United States Army Veteran serving from 1957 to 1960. Doug was an engineer employed by General Electric of Fitchburg for 33-years until his retirement in 1995.

Doug was a parishioner of Holy Cross Church of East Templeton. He was a member and three-term past president of the Templeton Lions Club for 40-years and was a member of the Rabbit Club of Gardner. Doug loved to be in his greenhouse, working on his garden, cutting wood, and playing cribbage. Doug was a family man who loved and cherished time spent with them.

Doug is survived by his wife of 58-years, Dianne M (Roy) Young of Templeton; a son Scott D. Young and his wife Joyce of East Templeton; a daughter Lynn M. Young and her significant other Daniel Straus of Winchendon; two brothers, Michael Young and his wife Karen of Winchendon, and Dennis Young and his wife Joanne of Gardner; two sisters, Jeannette Spalding of Winchendon, and Patricia Morrissey and her husband Tom of Otter River; three grandchildren, Melissa Cormier and her husband Greg, Kathleen Young, and Dustin Young and his wife Jenna; three great-grandchildren, Evan, Marissa, and Ava Cormier; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was predeceased by a daughter, Cheryl A. Young.

Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, June 30, 2020, with a Mass at 11:00 a.m. in Annunciation Parish at Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church, 135 Nichols Street, Gardner, MA. Family and friends are asked to report directly to the church on the day of the service. A private burial will follow at the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 111 Glenallen Street, Winchendon, MA.

There are no calling hours.

Due to the current COVID-19 Pandemic, restrictions set in place by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts will be in effect at Doug’s service.
