Dorothy M. Sylvestre

Dorothy “Dot” Margaret (Binnall) Sylvestre, 98, of Gardner, died peacefully Monday, March 1, 2021.

Born in Gardner on December 16, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Rose (Savoie) Binnall. She was a graduate of Gardner High School with the Class of 1940.

Dot loved to garden and play cards. She was an avid photographer and enjoyed making scrapbooks with her photos. She was proud of building her home on Leamy Street together with her husband when he returned from World War II in 1946 – and living there until the age of 95. She was active in every endeavor her sons undertook including sports, scouting, school, and church activities. Dot was a homemaker who loved and cherished time spent with her family, friends, and neighbors, especially her grandchildren. She was an ardent letter-writer and in her later years, Dot enjoyed long conversations on the phone with her family and friends. She never lost contact with those she loved.

Dot is survived by her two sons, Charles “Chuck” Sylvestre and his wife Patricia of Gardner and Neil Sylvestre and his wife Juja of Great Falls, VA; three grandchildren, Andrew Sylvestre of Gardner, Zachary Sylvestre and his wife KC of Concord, MA, also Edward Sylvestre and his wife Mélanie of Luxembourg; a great-grandchild, Clayton Sylvestre; a sister, Marion Connors of Baldwinville; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was predeceased by her husband of 47-years, Charles E. Sylvestre, who died in 1992; a sister, Yvonne Greenwood; and three brothers, Raymond, James “Jimmy” and Edward “Eddie” Binnall. 

Funeral Services will be held Monday, April 12, 2021, with a Mass at 10:00a.m. in Annunciation Parish at Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church, 135 Nichols Street, Gardner, MA. Burial will follow at St. John's Cemetery, West Street, Gardner, MA.
