Obituary

Claire Helen (Arsenault) Meehan, 97, of Gardner, died peacefully Tuesday July 14, 2026 at The Highlands of Fitchburg, MA with her loving family by her side.

She was predeceased by her husband of 67 years William J. Meehan in 2016. She leaves two daughters, Pamela A. McMilleon and her husband David of Colorado Springs, CO and Jane E. Agnelli and her husband Steve of Rye Beach, NH; two sons William R. and his wife Audrey of Christiansburg, VA and Jeffrey J. of Warwick, RI; seven grandchildren David W. McMilleon, Michael J. McMilleon, William S. Meehan, Jennifer L. Meehan, Ryan J. Meehan, Nathan P. Meehan and Sean P. Meehan; ten great grandchildren, one great great grandchild and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by 1 brother Paul Arsenault and 2 sisters Theresa Arsenault and Jeanette Arsenault Levigne.

She was born in Gardner, MA on December 9, 1928 to the late Arthur and Albina (Bourgeois) Arsenault. She attended Holy Rosary Elementary and Gardner High Schools graduating in 1946. She was employed as a clerical assistant at the Heywood Wakefield Co., as a Teacher's Assistant at Colemen Street and Sacred Heart Schools, as a financial assistant at Heywood Memorial Hospital and lastly as the receptionist for Dr. Paul Harasimowicz until she retired in 1993.

She was a member of the Sacred Heart and Holy Rosary Parishes throughout her life. Claire and Bill organized and operated the Sacred Heart School Bingo every Friday night for over 25 years until they retired in 1993. She was the Gardner Women's Candlepin Bowling Champion in the 1960's. After retiring she and Bill wintered in New Port Richey, Florida for several years. Throughout her life Claire and Bill traveled and cruised often to many locations across the USA, Hawaii, Bermuda, several Caribbean Islands, Canada, and Europe. The highlights of their travels were going to Israel and holy pilgrimages to Lourdes, Fatima, Jerusalem, and Rome, which included attending an outdoor Mass as special guests of Pope Paul II at St. Peter's Cathedral.

She truly loved her family and friends, festive holidays, dinning out, travel including many visits to Disney World Florida, all-nighters at casinos, playing bingo a few nights a week, knitting afghan blankets and mittens for new babies and family, social events and gatherings, playing cards several nights per week, doing word puzzles, enjoying her favorite Priscilla's Chocolates, visits from family and friends and most of all her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Calling hours will be held on Tuesday July 21, 2026, at Boucher Funeral Home at 110 Nichols Street, Gardner, MA from 10:00 a.m. through 11:00 a.m. followed by a Catholic Funeral Mass at Annunciation Parish/Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church at 135 Nichols Street Gardner, MA at 11:30 a.m. A graveside Service will follow at St. John's Cemetery on West Street in Gardner, MA.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105. Please reference in memory of Claire H. Meehan.
