Charles P
Bowles
June 27, 1943 – June 2, 2026
Colonial Hotel
2:00 - 5:00 pm (Eastern time)
It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Chuck Bowles, a devoted soulmate and a beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend.
A native of the Grafton Hill section of Worcester, Massachusetts, Chuck lived a life defined by leadership, service, dedication, and above all, love for his family. He shared a deep and enduring bond with his soulmate of 37 years, Tina Sbrega. Together they built a life filled with love, laughter, friendship, and countless cherished memories. Chuck was happiest spending time with Tina and Bosley (his dog he so adored) at their home on the lake, where they enjoyed life's simple pleasures and the company of family and friends.
Chuck is survived by the love of his life, Tina Sbrega; his son, Thomas Bowles and his fiancé Patty Kim, his stepson Jason Arsenault and his significant other Kate Richard, his step-granddaughter, Kayla Bourgeois and her husband, Justin; and his step-great-grandchildren, Barrett and Ava-Rae Bourgeois. He also leaves behind several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and great-great-nieces and nephews, all of whom held a special place in his heart.
He was predeceased by his loving sister, Ellinore Anderson, and her husband, Paul; his brother, Edmund Bowles; and his two faithful four-legged best friends, Bogey and Bosley
Chuck enjoyed a distinguished and highly respected career in banking that spanned more than four decades. He began his banking career with Bay Bank and Mechanics Bank before joining GFA Federal Credit Union, where he dedicated 40 years of service. He served as Chief Executive Officer for 25 years, leading the organization with vision and integrity until his retirement in 2009. Even after retiring, Chuck continued to serve as a Director of GFA Federal Credit until 2024. He also served as a Director of Lighthouse Biz Solutions LLC, a subsidiary of GFA Federal Credit Union.
His commitment to community service was equally remarkable. Chuck previously served as Chairman of the Board and Director of Eastern Corporate Federal Credit Union; Director of the North Central Massachusetts Regional Employment Board; Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Mount Wachusett Community College Foundation; Director of the United Way of North Central Massachusetts; Director of the Thayer Symphony Orchestra; Trustee of Mount Wachusett Community College; and Chairman of the Greater Gardner Chamber of Commerce.
A passionate advocate for education and professional development, Chuck taught banking and management through the American Institute of Banking, where he took great pride in sharing his knowledge and experience with future generations of banking professionals. He was a graduate of Western New England College and completed the Greater Worcester Executive Training Program at Worcester Polytechnic Institute.
Throughout his life, Chuck's dedication to his community was recognized through numerous honors. He was named Citizen of the Year by the Greater Gardner Chamber of Commerce, received the Harold E. Drake Jr. Citizen of the Year Award from Mount Wachusett Community College, and was honored with the Mount Wachusett Community College Service Above Self Award.
Chuck proudly served his country as a member of the Army National Guard for five years, achieving the rank of Sargeant. He carried a deep love and respect for his nation throughout his life.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Chuck embraced life with enthusiasm. He was a true sports enthusiast with a love for golf and boating. In his younger years, he excelled in track and enjoyed playing football and baseball.
Most of all, Chuck loved his family and friends, and spending time with them brought him his greatest joy. He had a wonderful sense of humor and loved telling a good joke just as much as he enjoyed hearing one. His contagious laugh could brighten any room, and his gift for storytelling kept family and friends entertained for hours. Chuck had a larger-than-life presence that naturally drew people to him, and those who knew him often described him as truly one of a kind. He was also a remarkable listener who took a genuine interest in others, making everyone feel valued and welcome. His generosity of spirit, compassionate heart, and unwavering devotion to the people he loved leave a legacy that will endure for generations.
Though his passing leaves an immeasurable void, the memories he created, the lives he touched, and the love he shared will remain forever in the hearts of all who knew him.
Chuck will be deeply missed, forever loved, and never forgotten.
A celebration of Chuck's life will be held on June 25, 2026 from 2:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. at the Colonial Hotel, 625 Betty Spring Road, Gardner, MA. In the spirit of his Irish heart - where laughter, stories, and good company were always welcome - hors d'oeuvres and cocktails will be served throughout the afternoon. A tribute will be offered at 4 pm, and guests are invited to join us for any portion of the gathering, staying for as long as feels right.
