Bernice A. MacDonald

Bernice “Bernie” A. (Kozlowski) MacDonald, 97, of Gardner, died peacefully Wednesday, April 28, 2021, in Milford Regional Medical Center, Milford, after an illness.

Born in East Templeton on June 6, 1923, was the daughter of the late Walter and Anelia (Rempella) Kozlowski. She grew up in East Templeton and graduated from Templeton High School with the Class of 1941. Her first job was at Union Twist and Drill. She then worked as a secretary at the Heywood-Wakefield Company of Gardner, where she met her husband, Fred J. MacDonald. She was a parishioner of the former Sacred Heart of Jesus Church of Gardner. She baked for Heywood Hospital and delivered books for the Levi Heywood Memorial Library. 

She was a member of the Petersham Golf Club of Petersham. Bernice enjoyed spending time in Siesta Key, FL, and traveling with her husband on all of the Metropolitan Life Insurance trips. She also enjoyed golfing, skiing, reading and spending time with her neighbors, and friends. She loved watching her Boston Red Sox. Bernice especially loved seeing her two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, who brought her a lot of joy. 

Bernice is survived by her daughter, Patricia Hulme and her husband Jonathan of Milford; two grandchildren, Jeffrey Hulme and his wife Cara of Ashland and Lindsey Kenny and her husband D.J. of Hingham; four great-grandchildren, Benjamin and Carolina Hulme, and Harrison and Bailey Kenny; several nieces, nephews and cousins. 

She was predeceased by her husband of 44-years, Fred J. MacDonald, who died in 1993; five sisters, Carolyn Ripka, Celelia Kasper, Lillian Greene, Helen Kachinsky and Margaret LeBlanc; and three brothers, Nicholas, Chester and Joseph Kozlowski. 

Funeral Services will be held Monday, May 3, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. in the Boucher Funeral Home, Inc., 110 Nichols Street, Gardner, MA. Burial will follow at St. John’s Cemetery, West Street, Gardner, MA. 

A Calling Hour will be held Monday, May 3, 2021, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home.
