Barthy Jalbert, 85, of Ashburnham, formerly of Gardner, died peacefully Sunday, February 19, 2023, in his home surrounded by his family after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born in Saint-Basile, New Brunswick, Canada, on September 9, 1937, he was the son of the late Eddie and Anita (Martin) Jalbert. Barthy was a Set-Up Man employed by Modern Contract for 35-years prior to his retirement in 1997. He was also employed part-time by Sargent Wood Products.
Barthy was a parishioner of Annunciation Parish/ Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church of Gardner. He was a member of the Acadien Social Club and the West End Beagle Club, both of Gardner, the Turnpike Club of Ashburnham, and the Monadnock Dance Club of Keene, NH. Barthy loved being outdoors working in his rose gardens and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was an excellent woodworker and enjoyed working on projects for family and friends. Barthy loved sports, but his true love being hockey—especially his Boston Bruins. His greatest joy in life, though, was his family, treasuring all the times they spent together.
Barthy is survived by his three daughters, Suzanne M. Boisseau and her husband Jeff of Ashburnham, Monique A. Jalbert of New Durham, NH, and Nicole L. Pirani and her husband Kevin of Cambridge; five grandchildren, Chad and Calvin Tenander, Jannelle VanEtten, Mae and Al Pirani; two great-grandchildren, Charlie and Owen Tenander; seven brothers, Jacques Jalbert and his wife Katherine of Winchendon, Richard Jalbert of Gardner, Martin Jalbert of Gardner, Ronald Jalbert and his wife Gloria of Baldwinville, Fernand Jalbert of Gardner, Bertrand Jalbert and his wife Martha of Gardner and Rino Jalbert and his wife Annette of Gardner; three sisters, Lorraine Bosse of Gardner, Germaine Clavet and her husband Roland of Wallingford, CT, and Pierette Jalbert of Phillipston; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was predeceased by his wife of 58-years, Gerene M. (Cormier) Jalbert, who died in 2022; his son, Thomas E. Jalbert, who died in 1984; and three brothers, Leonard, Armand, and Norman Jalbert.
Funeral Services will be held Monday, February 27, 2023, from the Boucher Funeral Home, Inc., 110 Nichols Street, Gardner, MA, with a Mass at 1:00 p.m. in Annunciation Parish at Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church, 135 Nichols Street, Gardner, MA. Burial at Notre Dame Cemetery, West Street, Gardner, will be held in the spring.
Calling Hours will be held Sunday, February 26, 2023, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. in the funeral home. The family asks those in attendance please wear a flannel shirt in remembrance of Barthy.
