Obituary

Barbara Ann (Buck) Hogan, 99, of Westminster, died peacefully Monday, January 12, 2026, at Quabbin Valley Healthcare in Athol, after a period of declining health.

Born in Worcester on March 13, 1926, she was the beloved daughter of the late Arthur and Madge (Thompson) Buck. Barbara graduated from Auburn High School with the Class of 1944 and enrolled into the US Cadet Nurse Corps in 1944 during World War II, to study nursing at Worcester City Hospital. Barbara graduated from Worcester City Hospital School of Nursing in the Class of 1947 as a member of the USCNC (United States Cadet Nurse Corps), with employment at Boston Visiting Nurses Association as a Registered Nurse for seven years. She later worked alongside her husband, Dr. Terrence E. Hogan, for 15 years after raising four children, until her retirement in 1990.

Barbara embraced life with energy, curiosity, and joy. She loved the outdoors and remained active throughout her life, enjoying cross-country skiing and participating as a proud member of the Chair City Walkers Club. She found great fulfillment working on her farm, where she raised animals and tended to her gardens. She was a world traveler, always eager to explore new places, and she held a deep love for the theatre. She was an avid reader, and spending quiet hours working on crafts.

Above all, Barbara's greatest pride and joy was her family. She cherished her role as a mother and grandmother and was a devoted supporter of her grandchildren, enthusiastically attending and encouraging their many activities over the years.

Barbara is survived by her three daughters, Kathleen Hogan Niebel and her husband Eric of Westminster, Cynthia Hogan Marlborough and her husband Michael of Plymouth, and Julie Hogan Staunton of Vermont; seven grandchildren, Breanna Niebel, Marina Dealy, Marissa Marlborough, Alexa Dealy, Alison Marlborough, Grey Hogan, and Cade Hogan; four great grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her devoted husband of over 50 years, Dr. Terrence E. Hogan, who died in 1998; her son, David E. Hogan, in 2020; and her brother, Charles P. Buck who died in 2013.

Funeral services will be private and at the convenience of the family in accordance with Barbara's wishes. Burial will take place at a later date in the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 111 Glenallen Street, Winchendon, Massachusetts.
