Jessica Ares

Jessica Lynne (Callahan) Ares, 39, of Gardner, died unexpectedly Thursday, July 29, 2021, in UMass Memorial Medical Center—University Campus, Worcester, due to complications from surgery.

Born in Leominster on November 18, 1981, she was the daughter of David Callahan and the late Audrey (Fossett) Callahan. She graduated from Gardner High School with the Class of 1999 and received her Associates in Nursing from Mount Wachusett Community College in 2005 and later received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Southern New Hampshire University in 2021. At the time of her passing, Jessica was a Registered Nurse employed by Heywood Hospital of Gardner for several years.

Jessica was a person of many passions. She enjoyed travelling, working on puzzles, and sitting in the sun soaking up its rays. She loved her cats Callie, Leo, Oliver, and Autumn. She loved lip gloss and always made sure that her lips were perfect and glossy. Jessica was a jokester and loved to poke fun at her family and friends. But the time that she loved and cherished the most was spent with her husband Kurt and their children, with whom she was planning the future with.

Besides her father David Callahan of Gardner, Jessica is survived by her husband and soulmate of nearly 3-years, Kurt M. Ares of Gardner; two daughters, Paige M. Taylor, and Sophia R. Taylor; a son, Ryan P. Taylor; two stepdaughters, Sydney K. Ares, and Charlotte M. Ares; paternal grandmother, Betty (Lassig) Callahan of Leominster; a sister, Stacey A. Callahan of Gardner; two uncles, Steve Callahan, and Tom Callahan; and several cousins.

I met Jess from working at Heywood. She was an amazing nurse, so
attentive and kind, and was a wonderful advocate for her patients.
She always had a wonderful attitude and pleasant demeanor, and always gave you her full attention when she spoke with you, no matter how busy she was. I've spoken with patients who expressed on how kind she was to them. You could tell she had a beautiful soul, and it's hard to believe I
will not see her smiling face or hear her upbeat, cheerful voice when I go onto Watkins 2. I will always think of her whenever I am there. It's difficult to understand why such tragic things happen to such beautiful people, but I know she will live on in memories and her beautiful children.
Rest peacefully, Jess. We love you very much. XOXO

Jess...we shared together all the time when we would bump in to each other in our small home town or in our hospital. I remember childhood and choreographed dances to 90s bands and drama and gossip as little girls do, on our neighborhood. Bear Hill Road baby!! I remember your home, your family. All through out my childhood. Some kind of tomato throwing fight took place...we ransacked someones garden. I remember when you and I were pregnant around the same time with our boys and sharing the joys and pains of new motherhood. I remember when your Mom was sick and how comforted you were when I was able to care for her and pray with at times and how much Audrey had softened as she was older. You know I was scared of her as a child, LOL! I remember when you and Kurt first met and how you shared with me your incredible joy as you had been so tough and overcame such hardship the years before. I was so deeply happy for you, knowing all that you had faced and accomplished. You were a nurse I aspired to be like and looked forward to training game when I spread my wings and head to the medical unit. You were always so beautiful and shamelessly primped. It makes it even harder to accept you have passed on, because you were always so shiny, bright, energetic and ready to go. I will think of you every time I see anything Disney and anytime I am on your medical unit and walk past your locker. I love you Jessica Callahan Ares. Im so sorry this happened. We are here for Kurt and the kids however we can be.
