Ludger A. “Blue Jay” Robichaud, 90, of Gardner, died peacefully Sunday, November 24, 2019, in his residence.
Born in Rumford, ME, on May 16, 1929, he was the son of the late Timothée and Marie E. (Sivret) Robichaud. He graduated from Gardner High School with the Class of 1948. He was a Korean War Veteran serving as an Engineman Third Class in the United States Navy from 1948 to 1952. He received the Good Conduct Medal, the National Service Defense Medal, and the Navy Occupation Medal (Europe). He was a pipe fitter employed by Royal Steam Heater Company of Gardner for 40-years and a member of Local #4 Plumber and Pipe Fitters Union of Worcester before retiring in 1993.
Ludger was a member of Annunciation Parish/Our Lady of Holy Rosary Church of Gardner, American Legion Post 129 of Gardner, Gardner Youth Hockey, a founder of the Gardner Merchants Football team, former member of the Gardner Parks and Cemetery Commission, and played an instrumental role in the construction of the new Gardner Animal Shelter, the Memorial Park Bandstand and the North Central Pathway. He was an active person and loved to be outdoors, whether he was hunting, gardening, cross country skiing, or bicycling—even biking across the United States. Ludger especially cherished the time spent with his family.
He leaves one son Richard T. Robichaud of Lorton, VA; three daughters, Paula M. Robichaud of Gardner, Michelle J. LeBlanc and her husband Scott of Hubbardston, and Susanne L. Stark and her husband Tim of Sorento, FL; eleven grandchildren, Briana Rumery ,Danielle Quinn, Derek Bennett, Amanda, Chelsea and Vanessa Robichaud, Josh, Scot, David, Amelia and Jackson Stark; seven great-grandchildren, Alivia and Connor Bennett, Ella, Raelynn and Jace Rumery, Ethan Haase, and Cora Quinn; one sister Rita Lahikinen of Gardner; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by his wife of 17-years Lorraine J. (Bettey) Robichaud, who died in 2016, one son Timothée J. Robichaud who died in 2004, and two brothers Louis A. and Charles J. Robichaud; one sister Albina Martin.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday, November 30, 2019, from the Boucher Funeral Home, Inc., 110 Nichols Street, Gardner, with a Mass at Annunciation Parish at Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church, 135 Nichols Street, Gardner, at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Notre Dame Cemetery, West Street, Gardner.
Calling Hours will be held Friday, November 29, 2019, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. in the funeral home.
