Jeanne B (Burke) Dawe

February 4, 1937 ~ May 20, 2019 (age 82)

Jeanne Burke Dawe, 82, of Gardner, passed away on Monday, May 20, 2019 in Wachusett Manor Nursing Home of Gardner, with her husband and children by her side.  She spent the last 3 weeks of her life surrounded by her husband, children, and seven amazing grandchildren.

Born in Quincy on February 4, 1937, Jeanne grew up in North Weymouth, MA and was the oldest of three children.  She graduated in 1955 from Weymouth High School with 4 year honors. She had participated in numerous sports and clubs, and was most proud of serving as Editor-in-Chief of her yearbook. Jeanne graduated from Bridgewater Teachers College (now Bridgewater State University) in 1959 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in English.  She was proud to have taught in Weymouth, MA before having children. Jeanne spent many years as a volunteer and leader for Camp Fire Girls, Inc. and also worked in their South Shore office as a Program Director. Jeanne used her amazing organizational skills as the Office Manager at a dental practice in Hingham. But what Jeanne was really known for was her radiant smile and how much she loved people. Her bright smile and zest for life were contagious.

Jeanne married William “Bill” Dawe from Quincy in 1960 and spent 62 years with the love her life, raising their four children in Hingham, MA and making wonderful memories with family and many friends. Jeanne and Bill loved to travel the United States, incorporating visits with family and friends. In 2002 they moved to Gardner, MA where they enjoyed the beautiful countryside of Central Massachusetts. Jeanne loved the ocean, lighthouses, Sebastian figurines, her pet dogs and grand-pups. Jeanne enthusiastically supported her grandchildren's activities and traveled near and far to cheer them on.  She chronicled her life in the scrapbooks she created and was defined by the family she dearly loved. Jeanne’s family will forever cherish her positive attitude, especially toward the end of her life. She taught her family what strength really looks like.

Jeanne is survived by her devoted husband, Bill Dawe of Gardner; son, Billy Dawe, Jr  and partner Laurel Christie of Goffstown, NH; daughter, Carolyn Uminski and husband David of Ashburnham, MA; daughter, Lorine Card and husband Brad of Washington, DC; daughter, Barbara “Barbie” Dawe and lifelong partner Michael Eaves of Hingham, MA;  grandchildren, Rebecca and Madison Card; Meghan and Trilby Dawe; Christopher and his wife Rebecca, Jessica and Zachary Uminski. Jeanne was predeceased by her two siblings; brother, Robert (“Bobby”) Burke, and sister, Beverly Castle.
