Jack S Andersson

November 17, 1930 ~ November 15, 2018 (age 87)

Jack S. Andersson, 87, of Athol, formerly of Gardner, died peacefully Thursday, November 15, 2018 in Quabbin Valley Healthcare of Athol.

            Jack was born in Jamestown, NY on November 17, 1930, the son of the late Bor and Viola Andersson. He graduated from high school in 1948, and attended Ohio State University where he earned his Bachelors of Fine Arts Degree.

            Jack spent many years as a self-employed photographer. He pushed black and white fine art to its edge with the science and subject matter of his photos. He has four prints in the permanent black and white photo collection of the New York Museum of Fine Arts, and had the honor of photographing the wedding of Grace Kelly and the Prince of Morocco. Jack was also employed by Digital Equipment Corporation for several years.

            Jack was a United States Korean War Navy Veteran, and received the National Defense Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, China Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal.

            He was an avid sports fan, enjoyed watching his favorite shows ‘N.Y.P.D.’ and ‘Hill Street Blues’, and was a member of the Swedish Social Club of Westminster.

            Jack was predeceased by his wife of 43 years, Felicite M. (Turgeon) Andersson who died April 26, 2018.

            He leaves his son, David Andersson of Watertown; daughter, Sarah Andersson of Gardner; and brothers-in-law, Raymond Turgeon and wife Amy Miller of Union, Maine, and Eugene Turgeon and his wife Carol of Saugus, MA. He was predeceased by his sister, Betty Lou Haapaoja.

            Funeral Services and burial with full Military Honors will be held Wednesday, November 28th at 2:00 p.m. in the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 111 Glenallen Street, Winchendon.

            There are no calling hours.

            Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donors choice.
